WE have windows defender installed and definitions being updated just fine at 4 sites so it is not like I am a novice at this. I have compared the working sites with I have taken clean clients and installed defender before joining them to WSUS and the opposite, joining them to WSUS and then installing Defender.

If you want to install Windows Defender, you either need to do it manaully by going to each computer or you can create a GP to install it. If I release the update, the latest definitions update for Defender, it will show as 0 kb already downloaded. If I allow install, it will record as installed successfully. I did notice that it also showed that my windows defender is turned off but when I try to turn it on it says no new definitions can be found. I found a link to download the definition file and install it myself instead of using Windows Update. I then turned off Auto Updates and when I ran Windows Update 3 updates showed up that were not showing up when Auto Updates was turned on. 1 of those updates was Windows Defender definition update.
